December is here and that means a multitude of fun holiday events and activities for families in Concord. From the arrival of Santa to ice skating excitement to holiday faires, there is something for everyone to enjoy in and around Concord this holiday season.
Start the Season off With Santa’s Arrival by Plane
The young and the young at heart will enjoy watching Santa’s unique arrival by plane at Buchanan Field Airport in Concord on December 7, 2019. This is a free event, but those attending are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for donation to the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano and have their picture taken with Santa!
What better way to get in the holiday spirit than taking the family ice skating at one of the region’s ice rinks. Take your pick these: Ice at the Veranda Holiday Rink open through February 17, 2020 weather permitting, Walnut Creek on Ice 2019 in downtown Walnut Creek open through January 20, 2020 at Civic Park, and the Kristi Yamaguchi Ice Rink at City Center Bishop Ranch, San Ramon open through January 5, 2020. As you can see, you and your family will have lots of opportunities for ice skating fun this year!
Faires, Concerts, Lights, and More
Holiday shopping fun awaits at the 2019 Hacienda Holiday Faire where you are sure to find the perfect gift for all those on your holiday list. This year’s faire is open December 6-8 at historic Hacienda de las Flores and features local artisans with incredible offerings of handcrafted gifts, décor, and delectable foods plus complimentary wine tastings. You’ll also find unique holiday gifts made by local artists at Arts of Point Richmond Holiday Faire on December 14, 2019. At this year’s event you’ll also find live music, a kids’ craft table, raffles, and homemade treats.
For those who want to experience the true meaning of Christmas, then head over to the 6TH Annual Christmas Drive-Thru at Bethel Baptist Church on December 13-14, 2019. Live performers, a choir, and reading take you back in time to the first Christmas.
On December 14, 2019, Macy’s of Sun Valley Mall and Solo Opera present “The Twelve Days of Christmas“. The event, a fundraiser for Solo Opera, features a concert, a fashion show, prizes, and a celebratory sing-along to conclude the event.
It wouldn’t be the holidays without lights and the shining display at the Ruth Bancroft Garden of d’Lights is not to be missed. Lasers, spotlights, and LED lights bring the garden alive with illumination and imagination. Wander the magical lighted garden weekend evenings through December 29th.
And, of course, family members of all ages will enjoy a visit to Holiday in the Park at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo which runs through January 5, 2020 and features shimmering light displays complete with the sounds, sights, and scents of the season. Explore the Merry Marketplace, Winter Wonderland, Toy Land, the Christmas Tree Forest, and more.
