Get your Skates Ready for Ice Rink Openings

Ice at the Veranda Holiday Rink is giving you and your family and friends lots of opportunities to glide on the ice with abandon. The ice rink is nearly 3,500 sq. ft. and holds a maximum of 100 skaters at once. Keep in mind, this outdoor ice rink is open weather permitting.

In nearby Downtown Walnut Creek, the 15th annual Walnut Creek on Ice 2019 is kicking off the winter season at Civic Park. This partially covered rink features special skate days and can be rented for private parties as well.

Over at City Center Bishop Ranch, San Ramon the Kristi Yamaguchi Ice Rink celebrates its grand opening and the 1992 Olympic gold medalist in figure skating and the rink’s namesake, Kristi Yamaguchi will be on hand to kick off the opening. The event will feature a holiday skating performance “An Icy Christmas” by Polina Edmunds, 2016 U.S. Silver Champion, with local skaters including Emma Hedican, Yamaguchi’s daughter. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will be given to the Always Dream Foundation, Yamaguchi’s local organization.

Honor those who Served at the Veterans Day Celebration

You and your family can join in the celebration and honor those who have served the United States valiantly at the Veterans Day Remember and Honor Celebration in Pleasant Hill Park. The event will feature a flag ceremony along with food and drinks plus games and bounce houses for the kids as well as games presented by the U.S. Army for the adults.

In Walnut Creek, the Veterans Day Ceremony will be held at the Lesher Center for the Arts and will feature a concert by the Walnut Creek Concert Band. Mayor Cindy Silva will open the ceremony which will include a keynote speaker and patriotic music.

Turkey Trots Galore!

This year, you and your family have a number of annual Turkey Trots from which to choose. Starting with the 5th Annual Concord Turkey Trot 2019 which kicks off at Todos Santos Park at 8 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day. This 5K/10K Run and Walk is presented by The Bay Church and benefits the church’s Compassion Outreach which serves the underserved in the community.

Next up is the 44th Annual Turkey Trot Trail Run 2019 at Briones Regional Park in Lafayette. This trail run is 8.4 miles in the hills of the park, including an uphill incline to Briones Peak.

In Walnut Creek, the 2019 Forma Gym Turkey Trot begins at 8 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day and includes events for the whole family to enjoy. There will be10K/5K runs, 5k Wheel & Walk, along with Kids Fun Runs, and festival areas. The proceeds benefit local organizations including WCEF, Food Bank, PEAK, and Rise Paralysis Recovery.

Over in Benicia, the Annual ‘Hand Up’ Thanksgiving Turkey Trot 2019 will be held on Thanksgiving morning at Benicia Community Park. This annual event benefits the Tim & Jeannie Hamann Foundation which assists cancer patients with a hand up in the cancer fighting journey.
